Los Alcázares

Los Alcázares is one of those places that evoke the feeling of ‘Now this is why I came to Spain!’ Los Alcázares has a special ‘something’. Los Alcázares is a seaside town located on the banks of the beautiful Mar Menor (for more information click on the highlighted text), with the calm warm waters of this sheltered inland sea Sunset from the Promenadelapping on its 7 kilometres of fine sandy beaches. The 7 kilometres is split between 7 beaches, most if not all with ‘Blue Flag’ and even ‘Q’ status for cleanliness and facilities.

Palaces stood here in medieval times. Romans settled here and built around the natural spas. Later the Arabs settled here and then the Christians who created a fishing port here. In more recent history the inhabitants of the region who worked the land and the sea came here to take the ‘9 Baths’ but nowadays the 15,000 residents swell to over 100,000 during the summer months as tourism is now the main industry. Los Alcázares is hugely popular with the British and Irish, and indeed with the Spanish themselves.

Los Alcázares is a family friendly place; the beaches shelve gently into the calm warm shallow waters of the Mar Menor. There is a single Promenade at Los Alcázares that runs from one end, uninterrupted to the other end 7 kilometres away. Cafés, bars and restaurants line the beaches which are child and disabled friendly and every type of water sport is available The Promenadehere.

Ferries go daily from Los Alcázares to the other side of the Mar Menor and to the numerous islands dotted in this inland sea. There is a marina here and even the old spa still exists where tapas are served, and inside is located the exclusive ‘La Encarnacion’ restaurant.

A few meters inland at Los Alcázares are masses of shops, more café bars and restaurants, a market, church and every possible thing needed for a comfortable life as a holidaymaker or indeed as a permanent resident. Los Alcázares has it all, well priced properties, beaches, café bars and restaurants, churches, shops, banks, numerous famous Fiestas and numerous golf courses are nearby.

Los Alcázares is split between

• North Los Alcázares
• Central Los Alcázares
• South Los Alcázares

And even though it is only 7 kilometres from one end to the other the differences between North Los Alcázares and South Los Alcázares are great.

Sunset from the beach at Los AlcázaresNorth Los Alcázares is touristy and has a certain ‘buzz’ about it. It feels more cosmopolitan with the best fish and chips restaurant for miles around here, as well as upmarket Japanese restaurants, numerous Indian, Chinese and fish restaurants. Eating out can be inexpensive here, yet some of the regions best and more expensive restaurants are located here too. The upmarket modern 525 hotel is situated here.

The properties that we feature for sale on our spanish home 4u pages are modern, well priced and well built. This is a place where countless owners offer their properties for rent to holidaymakers. Golf courses are nearby.

South Los Alcázares is ‘Spanish’ and laid-back. It has the best authentic tapas restaurant located here, sticking out into the calm waters of the Mar Menor on stilts, and the famous and exclusive ‘La Encarnacion’ restaurant located here near to the marina. Properties here are much more Spanish in style. Golf courses are nearby.

The monument to the PescadorWithin Los Alcázares are various monuments, one of particular note is ‘The Monument to The Pescador’ cast in bronze on Espejo beach, opposite the Church of The Asuncion. It pays homage to the efforts of the local fishermen. The monument shows a fisherman, who after a day at sea has returned with empty nets.

Behind him are two Mermaids riding on seahorses, one to represent the Mar Menor and the other representing The Mediterranean. Saddened by the fisherman’s empty nets the Mermaids help him fill his nets with fish.
