Corvera Airport PDF Print E-mail

The northern Costa Calida region is booming! The proof of this statement is to be seen in the massive investment in infastructure evident in new roads, new hospitals, new schools, new marinas and now in a new international airport, the third to serve this region (the existing ones are at San Javier airport, Murcia and Alicante airport).

This page is devoted to the new Corvera airport. The construction work to build the new Corvera international airport is well underway and the outline shapes of the passenger terminal, control towers and the 3 km runway can clearly be seen. The construction work was due to be finished by August 2010 but has been delayed to June 2011 and the airport will be operational in November 2011 press reports have announced. Once the new airport is open it will be capable of handling 16 flights per hour bringing in 2,200 passengers per hour and at full capacity 3 million passengers a year.

This photo was taken on 29th January 2010 and shows the current state of construction.

Update 23rd April 2010: Corvera airport is to be extended - even before it opens to passengers! The Spanish government has given the go-ahead to build 9 boarding gates instead of 5. This allows an increase from 1.5 million passengers to 3 million passengers a year.
