Introduction
This is one of those very special developments. It is true that spanish home 4u specialises in luxurious well priced properties set in wonderful locations, but even so Los Olivos de Mosa (The Olive Trees of Mosa) has that ‘certain something’ that immediately struck a chord with us. This is a wonderful little oasis that is 100% complete and ready to move into. Many of the villas are already sold.

The savings available through spanish home 4u are amazing! On the few remaining villas savings of over €684,000 off the bank valuation is available for buyers able to complete quickly!

Los Olivos de Mosa, also called Residencial Los Olivos de Mosa Trajectum, or simply Los Olivos to the locals is a tiny development of just 27 detached villas set within the large 5 Star Golf and Sports Mosa Trajectum Resort, built on a small hill in the style of a small pueblo, front line golf to one of the three golf courses and with a backdrop of mountains. Wild flowers are in abundance here and birdsong fills the air, yet this is not ‘in the middle of no-where’ as the main dual carriageway is just a few minutes drive away that links the beautiful beaches of the Mar Menor (25 minutes drive away) to the regional and vibrant capital of Murcia (just 17 minutes drive away).

Our Personal Opinion
Los Olivos de Mosa is a delightful little development of just 27 detached villas, each one is unique in its own right, each painted a different colour and each is built slightly differently from its neighbour, making Los Olivos de Mosa a real treat and something that is truly different from the standard ‘Spanish villa’ fare. Los Olivos de Mosa villas each have a larger than average plot size and, unusually for this part of Spain, each villa has its own garage. The 27 Los Olivos de Mosa villas are spread out over 13,000 square meters and are built in clusters of 3 to 6 villas in each cluster. Each villa faces into and has direct private access to a large communal swimming pool, so the 3 or 6 villas in each cluster each enjoy a larger pool than would be the case if the pool was their own private pool built in their own gardens. This way each property owner has use of a much larger pool than would otherwise have been the norm but with (for most) just 1/6th of the running costs yet with all of the socialising advantages and sense of community that communal swimming pools create.

History
The area surrounding the 5 Star Golf and Sports Mosa Trajectum Resort is now called ‘San Esteban de Mendigo’ and it is an area rich in culture and history. It is located in the area of ‘Banos y Mendigo’ in the Region of Murcia. ‘Banos y Mendigo’ was originally known as just ‘Banos’ and this is how it appears on the ancient maps. Abderraman and his Arabian successors used Banos as the location of several important Arabian Baths over a long period spanning the year 825 right up to 1248; specifically up to 22nd December 1248, a period when the Arabic Region of Murcia successfully defended itself from various Christian invasions and ultimately an invasion led by the future Alfonso ‘El Sabio’. On 22nd December 1248 the Region of Murcia became a Christian area once again and the name of ‘Banos’ was replaced by ‘Los Banos’, a name that continued throughout the Middle Ages. Later the area became ‘Banos y Mendigo’ and it is here that the country house of ‘San Esteban de Mendigo’ was built.

Legend tells the tale that in the Middle Ages a pilgrim arrived in this area (pilgrims travel, even to this day, from all over Europe to various sites in Spain as in Spain are 3 of the 5 Holy Cities of the World). He sheltered in a cave and only managed to survive due to the kindness he received from the local people as he was very poor indeed, really a beggar in today’s terminology. The pilgrim dedicated himself to San Esteban, always keeping images and medallions of the Saint close to him. The pilgrim became considered as a Saint by the local people, but one day he disappeared without trace. This legend is the basis of the current name of the local area ‘San Esteban de Mendigo’ as ‘Mendigo’ means beggar. It is here, in the area of the cave, that the ‘San Esteban de Mendigo’ country house is built.

The family that throughout generations owned the ‘San Esteban de Mendigo’ country house first moved here during the 17th or 18th centuries, building first the main house for themselves and then later some smaller houses for the farm workers in their employ.

Some time during the 19th century, on the penultimate Friday in September, a very strange phenomenon took place. As strange as it may sound for an area normally enjoying temperatures in the high 30’s and sometimes into the 40’s, an intense snowfall occurred. To mark the event the owners of ‘San Esteban de Mendigo’ decided to build a chapel. They crowned the chapel with an effigy of the Virgin Mary, naming the chapel the ‘Virgin of the Snow’. Since then every Friday of the penultimate week in September a religious pilgrimage has been celebrated. The entire village plus people from the surrounding areas come to celebrate this event. In front of the chapel on the flat land that also fronts the country house the ‘Virgin of Rosario’ heads a possession with the ‘Virgin of the Snow’ also proudly on display. Hundreds of people then offer their prayers in an open air Mass. This chapel is open to this day for worship, and nowadays the country house has been turned into a luxurious parador forming the central plaza at the 5 Star Golf and Sports Mosa Trajectum Resort. The plaza is a short walk from Los Olivos de Mosa.

Festivals
• As detailed above in the ‘History’ section there cannot be a more local, and poignant festival than that celebrated on the penultimate Friday in September to mark the very strange phenomenon that took place here. As strange as it may seem for an area normally enjoying temperatures in the high 30’s and sometimes into the 40’s, an intense snowfall occurred. To mark the event the owners of ‘San Esteban de Mendigo’ decided to build a chapel. They crowned the chapel with an effigy of the Virgin Mary, naming the chapel the ‘Virgin of the Snow’. Since then every Friday of the penultimate week in September a religious pilgrimage has been celebrated here, in front of the chapel on the flat land that also fronts the country house the ‘Virgin of Rosario’ heads a possession with the ‘Virgin of the Snow’ also proudly on display. Hundreds of people then offer their prayers in an open air Mass.
• This being inland Murcia the place is very traditional and more ‘Real Spain’ than ‘Tourist Spain’ so traditions are an integral part of life here.
